The Art Stories are honored to share the press release for a live radio show that will be hosted by Eva Xevgeni, Mirsini Orfanou and Panagiota Zacharaki on DITIKA FM 92.8 (web radio: http://dytikafm.gr) today, Saturday, 28th of December at 20.00 o’clock (GMT+2).
World acclaimed singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and DJ Björk, upon discussing about sexism in the music industry, said the following:
“On the pedagogic Biophilia I sang about galaxies and atoms, but it wasn’t until Vulnicura where I shared a heartbreak I got full acceptance from the media. […] If we don’t cut our chest open and bleed about the men and children in our lives we are cheating our audience. Eat your Bechdel test heart out.”
The Guardian, Björk on sexism: ‘Women in music are allowed to sing about their boyfriends”, 2016
We couldn’t agree more. From Amy Winehouse to Kim Petras and from Nina Simone to Beth Heart, throughout their hardship, female musicians have been astonishing, influencing, entertaining and inspiring us for decades, and we couldn’t find a better way to honor their valuable contribution rather than pay them a musical tribute to the Agrinio-based radio station DITIKA FM 92.8 (web radio: http://dytikafm.gr) on Saturday, 28th of December at 20.00 o’clock (GMT+2).
This show is of special importance for us because we are additionally hosting a brief discussion with the team (psychologists, social workers, administrative director) of the local Shelter for Women Victims of Violence and their children, where we will get to know a little bit more the shelter’s tremendous work and contribution to the community.
So stay tuned and stay feminist!
Sincerely,
Eva Xevgeni, Mirsini Orfanou, Panagiota Zacharaki
